Summer programs for Charleston County clients

Summer is a great time to brush up on academic skills to get ready for the next school year.
 
This year, all LMC summer workshops will be held at 
East Cooper Montessori Charter School in I'on at 250 Ponsbury Road, Mt. Pleasant, 29464. Individual programs, such as tutoring, Reading REWARDS, and Wilson Reading are also available at the West Ashley office at 628 St. Andrew's Blvd.
 
Register by May 31st and receive a $20 discount. 

Register multiple children and receive a $20 discount off the second child.

Improve Your Child’s Reading With a Specialized One-on-One Program
 
The
Wilson Reading Program is phonics-based and designed for students who struggle with decoding and spelling. Available for grades K-12. Flexible scheduling, hourly rates. Also available at West Ashley LMC office. 

The Reading REWARDS Program is for students who have basic decoding skills, but struggle with reading longer words. Availabe for grades 4-12. Flexible scheduling, hourly rates. Also available at West Ashley LMC office.

Oh no! A test tomorrow! Don't Panic!
Learn how to approach exams with confidence. Students will learn cognitive and behavioral techniques that help take the anxiety out of taking tests. Pre-requisite: Study Smart workshop.

Numbers and Nutrition
Looks good! Tastes good! Is it good for you?
Learn about the nutritional value of “kid friendly” foods. Calculate and compare vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, calories and fats.  What does “whole grain” mean and why is it important?  Why is sugar bad for you?  Enjoy making and sampling healthy snacks and more nutritious alternatives.   Learn to calculate proportions and how to increase or decrease recipes and standard ingredients appropriately. $195

Arts and Math
Who says math can't be fun and creative?
Enjoy creating art projects and calculating at the same time.  Create tangram creatures and use them with fractions and measurement.   Plot points on a graph to stitch and sew.   Enjoy art and numbers in a variety of fun, integrated activities. $195

Transition to Algebra I
Agonizing over algebra? Don't!
Begin Algebra I with confidence.  Get ready to reinforce the skills needed to advance  from    Pre-Algebra to Algebra I.  We will review integers, exponents, and variables through fun activities and group instruction. $195

Mastering Math Facts
Math facts still a little weak?
For students who have difficulty recalling basic math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division), this workshop will give you the confidence needed to move forward.  These basic stepping stones to your math future will be reinforced to make all other levels of math easier and more enjoyable.  $195

SAT-Math Workshop
A  five day workshop for all students interested in reviewing their basic math skills (Algebra and Geometry) as well as the advanced skills needed for the SAT.  Students will review test-taking strategies, and complete practice tests to prepare for the Math section of the SAT.

SAT-Verbal Workshop
A five day workshop for all students interested in reviewing their vocabulary, grammar, and logical thinking skills needed for this test. Students will review test taking strategies, and complete practice tests to prepare for the Verbal section of the SAT.  $225

Ready, Set, Go!
Join us for many fun filled activities that will prepare for a smooth transition from kindergarten into first grade. While reviewing reading, writing, math and listening skills, manipulatives, movement, games and more will make this workshop one your 5 year old will not want to miss. $195

Handwriting/ Creative Writing
Poor handwriting techniques?
Although cursive handwriting is no longer a part of the school curriculum, many students still want to master this skill.  We use a technique that makes it fun and easy.  Students will also participate in activities to improve visual- motor skills, muscle memory, and visual- spatial skills.  Along with learning cursive, students will learn how to be more creative with their words.  Writing simple sentences, paragraphs, and papers can be fun when learning a few tricks to get the creative rhythms flowing.

Writer's Workshop
Do you know what you want to say but can't quite get organized?
Do your writing assignments seem to be overwhelming?  Does a five paragraph essay seem like an impossible task?  Learn a simple format that you can apply to almost any writing assignment.  Our “easy to compose” method will help you complete these assignments with ease. $195

Keyboarding
Would you like to increase your keying speed and accuracy?
Students will see their current keying rate when the course begins and their improved rate at the end of the workshop.   Emphasis will be placed on learning proper keyboarding techniques to increase speed and accuracy.  This instructor lead course will help you improve, saving you time and energy when completing future task. $225
